Blizzards And Such

I loved the "Little House On The Prairie" books when I was little and I always wondered what it would be like to really have lived through the long winter.  All that snow!  And blizzards too!  I could never fathom what one was like!   I never even saw snow til I was twelve and then it was a quick trip to the mountains and it was hardly that impressive.

Today is my fourteenth anniversary since coming to Ukraine and since then, I've seen a lot of snow.  I've seen a lot of cold weather.  I've been weather as cold as -30C.  Kyiv had a pretty big snowfall last December and it was on the books as the biggest snowfall since 1930.  I don't know any of the past historical data, but I can tell you that within the last two days, I've seen more snow at one time than I have ever seen in my entire life!  It is literally pouring down.  It let up today for a couple of hours today and just snowed lightly but it is back to the heavy stuff.

I went out for a walk and there's not a lot of activity on the streets except for the police who are out in force and shoveling the sidewalks.  I appreciate that effort very much.  It's one thing to crawl through the snow yourself and another to have to haul a heavy bag of groceries in it.  I stocked up on some extra food so I will be hunkering down until the snow stops.
